I’m a
41year old male who lives in Little Rock, Arkansas. I started selling online in 2003 to keep my
sanity while working from home with my “real” job. I’m a freight broker by day and currently
sell vintage jewelry on Etsy and my website.
I have plans to start selling off some of my Antique Glassware that I
have accumulated over the years on my website JessesVintage.com, but as of the
present time I’m just not ready to get rid of it… LOL…
I’ve been
collecting since I was in my early 20’s and have accumulated over 350 pieces of
antique glassware. My main collection is
Green Depression Glass from the 1920s through the 1940s… This collection is
mostly larger items like pitchers, decanters, and vases of all sizes. Also included in this collection are Figural
Art Deco Flower Frogs from the 1930’s… These are near and dear to my heart as
the craftsmanship and pure beauty of these are not easily described with words
alone. My other glassware collections

When did
you become interested in vintage jewelry?
I became
interested in Vintage Jewelry after selling glassware online for about 4 years…
I realized that it was a lot easier to ship and package jewelry… I started out
just selling in a local antique shop in a showcase, and then ventured to online
sales in 2010 when I opened up my Etsy shop.
What do
you most enjoy about selling vintage jewelry?

I really enjoy taking the pictures of the
jewelry for my Etsy shop. Photography
has always been a “hobby” since I was a teenager. There is just something about capturing the
beauty of a piece of vintage jewelry for others to see when shopping. Some think that I’m too “particular” about my
photography but I personally do not feel that way. I want to give my potential customers the
best visual details of my items in my shops.
Do you
have a particular sale that stands out for you?
When I
first started selling on Etsy I had a wonderful Anderson Sterling Butterfly
Brooch that I found at a local Estate Sale.
I kept it for a couple weeks just admiring the pure beauty of the piece
and the bright colors of the enameling.
Then one day I decided to photograph it and list it. I was new to selling Vintage Jewelry online
so I priced it at what I thought was “high” because I liked it so much. The first day it was listed it was featured
in about 5 treasuries on Etsy and that evening it sold. This sale was the one that “hooked” me on
Vintage Jewelry. The next week the
person who bought this brooch sent me a personal email explaining that in the
early eighties she owned several of these Anderson butterfly pins, but due to
some personal issues she had to sell off many of them to keep up with her bills. Not only did she find my listing by accident
but when she saw the pin she just had to take a look and realized that this pin
was exactly like the one she had to sell many years ago. She thanked me for offering this brooch as
she was so happy find another one for her “new” collection. This is what selling online is all about…
Finding the perfect item, pricing it accordingly and hopefully having a happy
customer in the end!!
How do you
decide what you want to buy for resale?
I don’t
have a set in stone policy on what I buy
for resale. If I like it or I think it
is something that will sell then I buy it.
What is
your favorite resource for researching vintage jewelry?
My
favorite resource for researching vintage jewelry is a yahoo group that I
belong to called the Jewelry Ring. This
is a group of wonderful vintage jewelry collectors and resalers who share their
knowledge of vintage jewelry. I have
learned so much since joining the group in late 2009. I’ve learned to spot certain designers, and
how the construction of a piece of jewelry often gives hints as to the age of
the piece.
When
you’re standing in front of a table full of jewelry, what catches your eye?
This is an
easy question… Rhinestones, big bulky chunky designs… I can’t seem to walk away.
How do you
most benefit from being a member of VJSE?
What is your favorite method of promoting the VJSE Team and your shop?
Well my
benefits from the VJSE group team on Etsy are numerous… I enjoy every aspect of
the group. I’m currently on the
Leadership Group (LG) and I’m the Twitter leader. I’ve been on Twitter for almost 2 years now
and I really enjoy the networking. I’ve
became very well versed in this social media and have built my shop promotions
mostly on Twitter. I like to share what
I’ve learned and how I do things to the other members of the VJSE team so that
they might also see the success that I’m seeing in my Etsy Shop.

It was so great to get to know more about Jesse after having benefited by his knowledge and support of the VJSE Group Team! The brooch story was heartwarming, and reminded me of a similar experience.
